On the way to Brussels

The shortest way of the tour and the nicest weather- even though we are slow we'll get far! We started with bikes equipped with more posters, messages freshly stencilled on shirts: Solidary Economy; Squatting makes the march to Brussels only possible; Food Sovereignty Now!; The Revolution has just started ; No Borders!; listen to the people, listen free radios, People of the world rise up and take the streets, The bikes decorated with skipped flowers we biked on an old Roman road to Antwerpen, sun was with us and one guy on the market gave us fruits to support the cause- again postive reactions to our explications and flyers.

Arriving to Antwerp with sunset and full mooon we met our injured bikemates at the station to have assemply in the cold: We'll do some moving actions tomorrow in Brussels!

On the long way to the squat that hosts us tonight we passed different worlds: initiation ritual of young students to corporal associations the weirdest: People of the world, free yourself of wanting to be oppressed! Finally arriving we were received with a lot of healthy skip food- thanks brothers! Tomorrow they come with us to Brussels by bike! It is amazing that our groups gets larger day by day! from all places we pass!

15-O >>>>>> we will occupy Amsterdam: We are 99%. Everything for everyone. History starts now

On October 15th people from all over the world will take to the streets and squares. From America to Asia, from Africa to Europe, people are rising up to claim their rights and demand a true democracy. Now it is time for all of us to join in a global non violent protest. The ruling powers work for the benefit of just a few, ignoring the will of the vast majority and the human and environmental price we all have to pay. This intolerable situation must end. United in one voice, we will let politicians, and the financial elites they serve, know it is up to us, the people, to decide our future. We are not goods in the hands of politicians and bankers who do not represent us. On October 15th, we will meet on the streets to initiate the global change we want. We will peacefully demonstrate, talk and organize until we make it happen. It’s time for us to unite. It’s time for them to listen.

Take the square-NL have decided to occupy Amsterdam in collaboration with organizers from the event: www.occupyamsterdam.org. It is a peaceful action from citizens, not specific parties, unions... You are welcome

Countrywide assembly of all open assemblies of The Netherlands

When: Sunday, 2nd of October from 14'00 to 17'00.
Where: Social Center “De Valreep”. Polderweg 620, Amsterdam (http://valreep.wordpress.com/)

The last 3 years, no matter where we live, our lives are strongly influenced by the crisis. This crisis broke out in 2008 and transformed itself to a sovereign-debt crisis particularly in the EU-periphery. This crisis was not created by the people. The bankers and the financial institutions with the support of the governments are responsible for it.

Today the people are asked to pay this crisis by European-wide austerity measures. This recipe has been implemented repeatedly in the past by the IMF and always resulted in increasing the inequalities, the unemployment and the poverty among the people.

In this background, in the last 5 months, an alternative movement in the squares of many countries has emerged. This movement was the genuine reaction of the people against the way that the governments have chosen to deal with the crisis. People have started to gather in public spaces and occupy the squares to protest against the policies of the governments. The most optimistic element of this movement was that people stopped being passive and began to discuss about their lives and their problems making efforts to define a better society. This better society can only materialize with the collective struggle of the people. The ‘Take the Square’ movement that was based on the principles of real democracy, contributed at this.

Particularly in the Netherlands, since last May, open assemblies are taking place in several cities. These assemblies, are part of the ‘Take the Square’ movement and have organized actions of various scale with a twofold aim: firstly, the aim is to show their solidarity to the Spanish and Greek people that initiated this movement in Europe but are also the primary victims of austerity measures that are coordinated by the EU. Secondly, the aim is to react against the unjustified budget cuts that are implemented in the Netherlands that is a rich country that has been mildly affected by the crisis.

Since the beginning of the assemblies in the Netherlands, the necessity of coordination and communications among the assemblies in the Netherlands was more than obvious. Following the worldwide or pan-European actions for occupying the squares every Sunday is clearly not enough. A deeper and permanent coordination is necessary in order to increase the political awareness of the movement in the Netherlands and to achieve our goals.
For all these reasons we call for a countrywide assembly of all the local assemblies in the Netherlands on October 2nd in Amsterdam. It will be the first general and countrywide assembly and as such, we think that this is a very important event. The presence of all of us, the ‘everyday’ man and woman who participated in the ‘Take the Square’ movement, is more than necessary! For this reason, we invite everybody to join and participate in the ‘Assembly of Assemblies’.

Safeguarding the rule that the “agenda” of this assembly is open to be completed with topics that every participant may suggest, we propose some initial issues that we would like discuss and decide upon in this assembly:

1. Review and evaluation of local assemblies.
2. Ways of improving the coordination of our struggle mainly at the country level.
3. Organizing the protest in 15th October in Brussels
4. Other future actions and events.
5. Creating a new pan-Dutch countrywide website of all the open assemblies.

We invite you all in Amsterdam, 2nd of October 2011, 14.00, at the newly created social center “De Valreep” for the “Assembly of the Open Assemblies”

Bike March from Amsterdam to Brussels, 11 – 15 October 2011

Why do we go to Brussels?
October the 15th is supposed to be a day of worldwide protest. From several European countries, people are marching towards Brussels to express their anger and already start organizing themselves  during the days before the demonstration. You will find more information about 15O here:
We consider that the actual situation cannot be understood in a national framework. The logics and the working mechanisms behind them are global, so the mobilization efforts should also be global.  Therefore, we focus on networking on a transnational level, considering other people and other nation specific concerns. In the European context, our focus is the center of political decision making which is Brussels.

Why by bike?
We are willing to make a symbolic effort for the change we are seeking to achieve. After a period of assemblies and political discussion, it´s time to get more dynamic and sweat it out.
By stopping in several cities on the way, we want to involve civil society and create a bigger awareness about the need of a more inclusive and participative democracy. We won´t use any political symbols.
We want to be as autonomous as possible. Therefore, the only things we will need are a bike, a sleeping bag and the solidarity of other human beings.

We also see a greater need for exactly these human relationships. If we get too much used to virtual social networks and virtual mobilizations, change will also remain virtual. We have to reinforce human contact and construct the solidarity we need in real life.

We will go slowly because we want to get far.

Actions planned:
We will stop in several cities, camp there in public spaces and spread our message.

We will carry with us the political promises made at the beginning of the financial crisis regarding the regulation of the financial market, remember them to the people we meet and demand their fulfillment.

We will create awareness of the influence of the world´s biggest financial lobby group IIF (Institute of International Finance) on European legislation. Therefore, we denounce concrete Members of the European Parliament who have fallen under the influence of this lobby group. As a symbolic gesture, we will load the weight of their political decisions on our back.

To exercise real democracy we will record visually the demands of the people we meet on our way and present them in Brussels.

We want to highlight the human dependence on a system that is not anymore linked to life itself. We have to show the contradiction between abstract elements like the fictitious amounts of money or debts and real human needs, which are ground and water. We join the appeals for thinking of alternatives that enable us to live in harmony with our environment. Therefore, we collect earth and water in the different places we stop and bring them to Brussels. Earth and water will be our manifest.

The route:

15-O, first activity: MARCH TO BRUSSELS...meeting to prepare...

Cycling to Brussels – towards the WorldRevolution We're traveling: from 11 to 15 October

Do you want to burn calories and the unfulfilled promises of our politicians?
Are you fed up with trying to change the world from your couch?

Are you feeling bloated with too many abstract explanations?
Are you short of cash for the bus but still you want to raise your voice?

Get on moving!

Come cycle with us to Brussels without politicals simbols and take part on the big international demonstration on 15th October.

You can come in Bus too. From 14 to 16 of October.

MEETING: 27 of September, Cafe Budapest. Bring the staff to prepare the accions.

Tired of corrupted governments, we've decided to carry the weight of all those political decisions taken in Brussels and give 'em back to them. As a symbolic gesture, to denounce their actions, we will take with us the faces of those EU MPs who have fallen under the influence of the financial lobbies.

On our way through the Netherlands and Belgium we'll gather water, earth and the demands of the citizens of the places we stop at. We'll take it all with us and present it to the Euro Parliament. It's water and earth because we don't want to produce a manifest talking about abstract things like money and public debt. Water and earth are the elements that give us life and all those things they're taking away from us. Once in Brussels we'll symbolically burn the money and present the water and earth to the Parliament.

Join us taking part in this. Let's work together and share your own demands too!

POSITION OF THE TAKE THE SQUARE - ZUID HOLLAND ASSEMBLY IN RELATION TO THE YES WE CAMP! - TENTENKAMP BEURSPLEIN ON THE 17TH OF SEPTEMBER 2011 IN AMSTERDAM

After the decisive meeting on the 13th of September with the organizers of the Tentenkamp Beursplein, the Take the Square - Zuid Holland Assembly have decided not to participate in the protest camp, even though we fully support the international call of action against the stock markets on the 17th of September.

We believe in the creation of new spaces of discussion in which we all feel represented and free to give our opinion, in the way that is being developed and practiced on the squares all around the world.

The use of ideological and political branding by the organizers of the Tentenkamp Beursplein is in clear conflict with the spirit of this movement.

15-M Asambleas Amsterdam y Zuid Holland 31-08-2011

For a social movement, creating our own tool for social interaction on the net is very important. Because it's a way to realize our “technological sovereignty” and, in doing so, reclaim social networking for all the relationships and connections we establish as activists, collectives and collective actions fighting for social and political change.

Above all, we see N-1 as a tool that's specially handy when working with many groups an a lot of information. And a working tool that comes with the guarantee that you won't wake up one day to your account having been censored overnight.

We've got a main group (Take the square) where we intend to gather everybody in forums, a shared calendar and many more tools that will facilitate communication and collaborative work. You can find it: https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/628806/take-the-square-nl/

We've also opened groups based on subject (SpanishRevolution: https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/566565/spanishrevolution/) or actions (like the march to Brussels next October: https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/565581/international-march-from-netherlands-to-brussels/). These are examples of how we can work on specific topics within a global action. And it means that newcomers (perhaps like you?) are welcome to have a look, get an idea of what's going on and if you like it, join one or more groups or even propose new ones.

Please help us spread the news, together we can make this world a better place!

ACTA-MINUTES OF THE ZUID HOLLAND OPEN ASSEMBLY. DEN HAAG, 10TH AUGUST 2011.

11 people were present.

The points discussed were the following:

1. Defining values and goals of the Zuid Holland assembly

After making a summary of the crucial dates of the many actions and demonstrations in September (check document https://n-1.cc/pg/event_calendar/view/629844), the assembly agrees that we have to start creating a document that defines the common reasons to gather and the goals of our particular assembly. This will make it easier to coordinate with other groups with similar interests and to define the future actions.

We are going to open a subgroup in the N-1 to start working on a draft. By next assembly on the 17th of August, we should have the main points/headlines to discuss.

2. Working method of the assembly:

The assembly decides to make two subgroups:

1- Freethinkers/content/thinking: in the following weeks, this subgroup will work on the definition of the values and goals of the assembly. It will also propose subjects for debates and possible solutions to social problems.

2- Action: this subgroup will think of different actions consequent with the definition and goals of the assembly.

It is possible for the same people to be part of the two subgroups. The aim is to make “mental space” for the two subjects: that in the N-1 group we roughly develop proposals for actions and content, and in the assemblies we take the time to discuss them further.

For that, there will be two subgroups created in the N-1, Action https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/635091/action/ and Thinking https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/635063/thinking/

Important: we all agree to communicate better online with the N-1 (https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/485492/take-the-squarezuid-holland/) so we make sure that concrete proposals are developed before we meet in the assemblies, where we will make the decisions and discuss the difficult points.

3. Rough ideas for the Freethinkers document:

- Our role in the revolution as expats
- Common consequences of the crisis (NL/EU/Global).
- How to communicate with other groups.

4. Next action: Info-night

Proposed dates: 9 or 10 of September.
To take into account: the 10th of September there will be a big demonstration call from Greece.

The aim of the infonight is to see our capability and to inform people about the existence of the Zuid Holland assembly. There should be information about the 15O (call for Global Revolution), the March to Brussels (https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/565581/international-march-from-netherlands-to-brussels/) and the current political context (also in NL). The emphasis will be in making a good informative event, nevertheless we agree that it is also important to have music and a party.

Some brainstorm ideas: showing documentaries, making playful workshops/games, performances by musicians and dancer that participants of the assembly...

Venue: We have to start looking for one. If anyone has suggestions, please, let the assembly know. For the moment we will check out Nuthuis, squat places, and cultural initiatives.

5. Contact with other groups

We haven't decided about how to join the demonstration of the different Dutch sectors in September, but we will keep them in mind.

For the moment, one of us will check this Friday with the Plein van Beschaving (https://n-1.cc/mod/threaded_forums/topicposts.php?topic=569377&group_guid=485492) if we can coordinate something with them.

To do list (any help and suggestions are welcome):

- Start working online on the headlines of the Freethinkers/content/thinking document
- Look for venues for the info-night
- Think about info-night program
- Contact Plein der Beschaving

Next assembly:

Wednesday 17th of August at 18'30. Next to Den Haag Central Station, under the biggest tree in the park between Koningstunnel and Koekamplaan, in front of the Koninklijke Akademie van Beeldende Kunsten.

Above all, we see N-1 as a tool that's specially handy when working with many groups an a lot of information. And a working tool that comes with the guarantee that you won't wake up one day to your account having been censored overnight.

We've got groups for the different (Take the square) assemblies in The Netherlands where we intend to gather everybody in forums, a shared calendar and many more tools that will facilitate communication and collaborative work.

ZUID HOLLAND (Delft, Den Haag, Leiden, Rotterdam...): https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/485492/assembly-zuid-holland/

UTRECHT: https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/455457/take-the-square-utrecht/

We've also opened groups based on subject (SpanishRevolution: https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/566565/spanishrevolution/) or actions (like the march to Brussels next October: https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/565581/international-march-from-netherlands-to-brussels/). We're planning a workshop with a more extended introduction to working with n-1. It'll be soon, we're at the moment looking for a suitable place. We'll keep you posted on this, but in the meantime please feel invited to come join us and get acquainted with n-1.

Please, help us spread the news, together we can make this world a better place!

ACTA-MINUTES OF THE OPEN ASSEMBLY IN DEN HAAG. THE 27th OF JULY 2011.

Secretary: Sara
14 people were present.

The points discussed were the following:

1. Define the coordination between the local and international groups:

We decided to change the name of the group for “Zuid-Holland/South Holland” as there are not only people from Den Haag attending the assemblies, but also people from Delft, Leiden and Rotterdam. This can allow people to join more easily the group.

2. Media used for diffusion:

We decided that N-1 seemed to be the more appropriate tool to use. We decided to slowly leave the mailing-list used for communication and all register to N-1. A delay of 1-2 months is given to the group members to pass to N-1. (From now on the summaries of the assemblies will only be published on N-1 and the blog). A course about how N-1 works will be given by Paco from Amsterdam, but he is in Holland until the 25th of August. We still have to define the date and place of this course!!!

We agreed that N-1 will allow us to have our internal discussions.

We also had the idea of asking the administrators of N-1 if it would be possible to create one big group of Holland inside N-1 and have as subgroups the groups of Amsterdam, Zuid-Holland, Utrecht... . This would allow to be very organised, save time and diffuse better. We are waiting an answer for this possibility.

We decided to keep Facebook and use it for minimal discussions and for the announcement of big events: https://www.facebook.com/groups/202620699774029/

We also decided to keep the blog and use it for the annoucement of big events and general information. In N-1 a subgroup will be created to discuss about what to put in the blog. Concerning the blog we have been told that there is only one boy managing it. He would need the assistance of one or two volunteers to help him out! If someone feels like doing it. Welcome!

If you want to join N-1. Click on this link https://n-1.cc/ after registering you can search for the group called “Assembly South Holland” or go directly to https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/485492/assembly-zuid-holland/. If you cannot find it search for Oscar Pretix (who is at the moment the administrator of the group) maybe it will be easier. Peolple can join the group freely. If ever you do so, please put a picture of any kind and try to fill in your profile and habilities (this could allow a better organisation). The idea is just to see how N-1 works and practise. If it doesn't work correctly you can ask a question on “bug”, which is on the bottom of the page of N-1.

3. Plans for the future:

A short guest Caroline from Freiburg talked about how the movement 15M was working in Germany.

We decided to start doing some actions. This could take place in September as many people come back from holidays. The aim is to diffuse the movement to local Dutch people and make them understand that we are in the same struggle.
We thought of joining local movements like the dancers, architects or Tolhuistuin one's. We also had the idea to protest in front of the international law court and embassies. We decided to open a subgroup for this purpese on N-1.

We also talked about helping to organize the march to Brussels or simply join a group of walkers. One's proposed to make an info-night in one of the cities of Zuid-Holland on the first week-end of September to spread more information about the global movement of October the 15th. We decided to open a subgroup for this purpose on N-1 (https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/565581/international-march-from-netherlands-to-brussels/)

4. Remarks about the info-night of the 23rd of July

We all agreed that it was a very good idea to organise this info-night. It allowed us to get to know each other better and in general we had a good time. The few remarks we could make are about technical matters. When watching the documentaries, the sound wasn't very good which made new people wanting to join the movement, difficult to understand what the movement was really about. Before projecting the documentaries someone could have presented them and after the showing a short time could have been given to people to express their opinions.

It was also a pity that the short videos that were planned to be shown, finally weren't. It would have been nice to show the short video about the 15M movement in Portugal and make people understand that the movement is spreading.

We decided that our next meeting will be held in Den Haag on the 3rd of August at 18.30

The assembly started discussing about the info-party. Which ones were the troubles and How to manage the obtained money. It has been decided to discuss this in https://n-1.cc/mod/threaded_forums/topicposts.php?topic=565875&group_guid=419924 since the people presented at the assembly were considered insufficient.

The info-party was considered a success and dozens of mail addresses were gathered. It is to be send a collective mail to the people who have sign in and to include the mail list of the current participants in the commissions organized early June, (Diffusion, Contents, Media, Action, Coordination, Logistics…) to give continuity to the organization as it is. The different commissions will be subscribed to https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/104157/take-the-square-amsterdam/

The propose of the mail is also to call for  a workshop related to the functioning of the independent social network N-1 which has been decided the best platform to interact in and with the movement. This workshop is to be organized around Friday 5 in OT301 but final confirmation is still expected.

It has been discussed to organize an anonymous survey to get the feedback from people is not longer joining or participating actively. The purpose is to understand which are the reasons might “disconnect” the people with the movement in order to improve the coordination and to gather all the efforts together.

It has been proposed a March to Brussels by bike and/or bus to join efforts with other participant along Europe who are coming to Brussels around 15 October to protest against economical policies but mainly to show unity and solidarity among us https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/565581/international-march-to-brussels/.

It has been discussed the possibility of creating contact with political parties, and NGO with the only intention of using their infrastructure and to create a parallel United Nations. It has been discussed than the current WSF  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Social_Forum is already gathering collectively this effort and we should focus into consolidate as a movement and to act locally for the time being.

It is decided to use as mere informative the current platforms
and use the social network to organized discuss ad coordinate the efforts:

The assembly was closed and some of the participants enjoyed a potato- omelet with some beers.
