After welcoming the cyclists that arrived all the way from Groningen, today the march to Brussels is leaving from Amsterdam and will arrive to Den Haag. Meet them at the Plein from 15:00 onwards!

Countrywide assembly of all open assemblies of The Netherlands

The last 3 years, no matter where we live, our lives are strongly influenced by the crisis. This crisis broke out in 2008 and transformed itself to a sovereign-debt crisis particularly in the EU-periphery. This crisis was not created by the people. The bankers and the financial institutions with the support of the governments are responsible for it.

Today the people are asked to pay this crisis by European-wide austerity measures. This recipe has been implemented repeatedly in the past by the IMF and always resulted in increasing the inequalities, the unemployment and the poverty among the people.

In this background, in the last 5 months, an alternative movement in the squares of many countries has emerged. This movement was the genuine reaction of the people against the way that the governments have chosen to deal with the crisis. People have started to gather in public spaces and occupy the squares to protest against the policies of the governments. The most optimistic element of this movement was that people stopped being passive and began to discuss about their lives and their problems making efforts to define a better society. This better society can only materialize with the collective struggle of the people. The ‘Take the Square’ movement that was based on the principles of real democracy, contributed at this.

Particularly in the Netherlands, since last May, open assemblies are taking place in several cities. These assemblies, are part of the ‘Take the Square’ movement and have organized actions of various scale with a twofold aim: firstly, the aim is to show their solidarity to the Spanish and Greek people that initiated this movement in Europe but are also the primary victims of austerity measures that are coordinated by the EU. Secondly, the aim is to react against the unjustified budget cuts that are implemented in the Netherlands that is a rich country that has been mildly affected by the crisis.

Since the beginning of the assemblies in the Netherlands, the necessity of coordination and communications among the assemblies in the Netherlands was more than obvious. Following the worldwide or pan-European actions for occupying the squares every Sunday is clearly not enough. A deeper and permanent coordination is necessary in order to increase the political awareness of the movement in the Netherlands and to achieve our goals.
For all these reasons we call for a countrywide assembly of all the local assemblies in the Netherlands on October 2nd in Amsterdam. It will be the first general and countrywide assembly and as such, we think that this is a very important event. The presence of all of us, the ‘everyday’ man and woman who participated in the ‘Take the Square’ movement, is more than necessary! For this reason, we invite everybody to join and participate in the ‘Assembly of Assemblies’.

Safeguarding the rule that the “agenda” of this assembly is open to be completed with topics that every participant may suggest, we propose some initial issues that we would like discuss and decide upon in this assembly:

1. Review and evaluation of local assemblies.
2. Ways of improving the coordination of our struggle mainly at the country level.
3. Organizing the protest in 15th October in Brussels
4. Other future actions and events.
5. Creating a new pan-Dutch countrywide website of all the open assemblies.

We celebrate that the manifestatons of the art world, health care, environmental groups, anti-fascist groups, students, education, public transport, and many more are organizing their manifestations against senseless politics that - so we all have learned - listens more to the voice of money and power than the voice of its people and their democray.

D E M O C R A C Y - I S - T H E - P E O P L E
It is not the institutions that form democracy, it is human consciousness which creates and upholds it. We celebrate that the flame of the common complaint of these manifestations has a wider perspective than just defending their own group. We celebrate the fact that every one sees that looking further than just themselves invites every human being to direct democracy and that it is time to bundle all our forces.

This is in fact happening everywhere in Europe and the world. On May 15th, in Spain the so called #SpanishRevolution brought hundreds of thousands people together on the streets. Everyhwere in the country started to pop up spontaneous, democratic peoples' assemblies which brought back power and colours to the voices of the people. The flame spread itself from Iceland and Spain to Greece, Ireland, France, Italy, Norway, United Kingdom and Germany and knows in the meantime already hundreds of representatives in the Netherlands and it grew to more than 10.000 people on the March of Civilization. Since 2 months now, we are having weekly open peoples' assemblies where the basic idea is direct democracy. This movement knows in Europe already more than 1 million people who try everyday to get closer to a universal world vision.

We are just ordinary people who know it is time to let intelligence and humanity reign over manipulation, power and earnings. We are confident humanity is ready for this next step and that a democracy, based on everyone's idea is so many times stronger that the ficticious democracies of representatives, bankers and lobbyists.

CALL FOR DEMONSTRATION ON SUNDAY 10 OF JULY IN AMSTERDAM

We call on everyone, who is in solidarity with the people struggling throughout the world to protest on the Dam square in Amsterdam on Sunday July 10th at 17:00.

Since the outburst of the financial crisis back in 2008, there is an on-going attack on the social and political rights of the people. This attack seems to be different across countries, but at a closer inspection, it becomes obvious that is actually the same. The policies of European governments, EU officials and IMF are common: budget cuts are imposed and human rights are deprived.

However, during the last months citizens around the world have been rising up. From North Africa to South Europe we have seen people taking the streets, occupying squares and starting to have people's assemblies. With the authority of the political parties and unions fading, they have started to take things in their own hands.

On Wednesday June 29th at the peaceful demonstration which took place in Syntagma square, Athens, there were numerous incidents of police brutality. More than 500 people were injured and thousands suffered breathing problems. Police acted excessively attacking even the First Aid camps and doctors. They used more than 2500 units of tear gas and made the whole city of Athens a chemical war zone. They proceeded with many illegal arrests without any reason. They acted as paramilitary groups and terrorized people by driving and walking around the city center in military formations. Only by chance there were not any casualties.

The reason for this unacceptable violence was to terrorize and prevent people from taking action against the austerity measures and the new "rescue" plan imposed by the Greek government under the command of the EU, the ECB and the IMF. The reason for implementing such a plan lies in the protection of the interests of the banks and specific economic elites. The story is the same all around the world.

We call on everyone, who is in solidarity with the people struggling throughout the world to protest on the Dam square in Amsterdam on Sunday July 10th at 17:00.

Since the outburst of the financial crisis back in 2008, there is an on-going attack on the rights of the people. This attack may at first sight seem to be different across countries, but at a closer inspection, it becomes obvious that this attack is actually the same. The argumentation used by european governments, EU officials and IMF is quite simple, there is a crisis and to deal with the crisis, budget cuts are needed. What all these officials do not say deliberately is the reasons that led to this crisis, and what these officials do not mention is that at the same time that they are imposing austerity measures, they are supporting the banks, providing them millions of euros.

The case of Greece is quite revealing of the situation. After a year of austerity measures and a rescue plan that led into further recession and increase of unemployement rates (in March 2011, the general unemployment rate was 16.2% and 40% for the youth), nothing has been solved and Greece is in even worse state, with more loans and in need of a new rescue plan. IMF and EU officials claim that the first rescue plan was right, but the implementation was wrong. However, a closer inspection shows that this is just a lie. The Greek government, EU and IMF knew that this kind of plan has no chance to succeed (one does not even need to be an economist to foresee failure: it is enough to see what happened in countries that followed similar plans, see for example, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Equador). The reason for implementing such a plan lies in the protection of the interests of the banks and of the interests of rich Greeks. In other words, EU used the Greek crisis as an excuse in order to subsidize further the banks. And after the failure of the first rescue plan, IMF, EU and the Greek government agreed on a second rescue plan with even more budget cuts and more severe terms. According to this second rescue plan, the Greek government should use the new loan to finance previous loans, needs to impose new austerity measures, reduce the public sector, privatise education, health and transportation and sell state property. What it means to sell state property becomes clear when examining what happened with the Greek telecommunication company (OTE) and Deutsche Telecom, a couple of weeks ago, Deutsche Telecom bought 10% of OTE for €400, while in 2008, Deutsche Telecom bought 30% of OTE for 3.8 millions… The most worrying part of the story is that this second rescue plan is also condemned to failure, leading Greek economy to further recession and Greek people to poverty. Similar budget cuts are imposed upon Spain, Portugal, Italy and during the last months some cuts were announced for The Netherlands too (look for instance what is happening in the mental health sectors, the culture sector, education and the public transport sector).

We are not happy with this situation. We feel that the profits of the banks and the industries are valued more than the quality of life of the people. We want to let IMF, EU and european governments know that we do not value the profits of banks and industries. We want to let IMF, EU and the european governments know also that we do not recognise the debt of any country and that we demand that the debts of the countries are written off.We express our solidarity to the Greek people and to every person that fights against the austerity measures and dreams of a society of the people, where life will be organised on the basis of equality and on the basis of the needs of people, instead of the needs of market, nation or ruling class.

Throughout Europe we have seen people taking to the streets, occupying squares and starting to have people's assemblies. With the authority of the political parties and unions fading, they have started to take things in their own hands. Also in the Netherlands we have seen some of these assemblies taking place, initially at the Dam square in Amsterdam, but later on also in Groningen, Delft, Rotterdam, Tilburg.
We call on everyone, who is in solidarity with the people in Europe rising up and who wants to think about how to move on in the Netherlands, to join us for a protest-gathering and open assembly at the Dam Square, Amsterdam, on Sunday 10th July at 17:00.

The government cuts, the government destroys what we need for our existence. Those austerity policies themselves have to be destroyed. It is time for protest.

The PGB for many people will be stopped. People have to make bigger financial contributions for mental healthcare. Chronically sick, need help? Bad luck, see how you can manage. Need mental healthcare through GGZ? Just pay a lot extra. Fitting education, for children who need axtra attention, will be low-quality because of cuts. Orchestra's, theater companies, other art institutions will be cut back or will even have to close. VAT for tickets will rise, concerts etcetera wil be even more expensive. Jobs will be lost, choice in events wil be diminished.

Again and again, the most vulnerable people wil be hurt. Rich people will keep their tax subsidies for houses, capitalists continue to profit of tax advantages – at our expense. Money that is not availibla for care and public transport, suddenly appears for an expensive JSF fighter plane. We want this harsh austerity policies to be stopped. That is why we take action

The Netherlands does not stand alone. In Spain, there is mass unemployment, and severe cuts are imposed. In Greece, austority measures are pushing many people into deep poverty. It is blackmail: if Greece does not cut, the EU will not extend credits. Those credits don't benefit the poor Greek: they flow right back to pay back earlier debts. People in Spain and greece protest in large numbers against austerity and against their government. They give a good example, they deserve solidarity. For tht reason, too, we take action.

Therefore: come together at the Heuvelin Tiburg, on July 14, on 19.00! There will be some music, slogans will be made visible – but by all means brong your own banners, placards and other means of expression to contribute creatively to the protest. See and hear you. On the 14th of July – and please help spread this call!

Brain storm of ideas "beyond the eviction wave" - General Assembly for Squatting Movement, so another form ( but continuation ) of City Wide meetings.
Together we would like to create ideas to make some not expected steps that hopefully will improve the situation of squatting movement. Everyone may have idea about organizing for example next actions days, campaign, movie, graffiti festival, sleeping action, posters etc. Lets use the advantage that we would be many at the squatting resistance days and together brain storm those ideas, then create working groups who would like put them in to life.
By doing it more in the "spanish/dutch/world revolution" way we would like to exercise new way of meetings but also we would like to show among us the solidarity with the world wide struggle against capitalism, austerity measures and social cuts.
Why beyond eviction wave ?
First because we respect and wouldn't like to interfere in strategy what its already prepared. Second because we would like to start to create the movements what would be more offensive than defending.
With more heads we are smarter, with more hearts we are stronger, more hands are making work lighter.

Statement by the People's Assembly of Syntagma Square on today's events: Their destiny is frustration, ours is victory!

Their destiny is frustration, ours is victory!

Thousands of protesters have responded and participated to the call of syndicates and the "indignados" movement of the squares, for a 48 hour general strike in order to succeed in the "cancellation" of the mid term agreement on the street.

With the air that distinguishes those who have the right on their side and with only defensive shield our bodies and determination, we have gathered in front of the bastion of shame (the Parliament) at Syntagma square. Our voices were united with the voices of the many and decided indignados from Kalamata and all Peloponnese, Corfu and Hania.. United with those from Thessaloniki and all northern Greece, with all these, and they are many, who do not withstand the ending of their lives succumbing to the false dilemmas of the government, the Troika and the bankers.

The police's attitude, in their role as the repressive branch of the memorandum and the mid term agreement politics – although totally expected- is totally outrageous: blistering shooting of teargas (even at the location of the first aid station of the square), protesters injuries (over 270), encirclement and threat of evacuation of our premises, gymnastic demonstrations of chemical and military fist.

In vain…

The people, all of us, bypassing and overcoming the repressive fallout and the political environmental destruction we have taken matters into our own hands!

It was about time! Playing football, dancing, playing music, creating human chains in the center of the square we took back our square forcing the police to retreat! Despite the drain of chemicals, the crowd of demonstrators insists: We will not leave unless they leave!

And a reminder!

Those who choke us with teargas, they will drown in our indignation! We continue our 48 hours on the road!

Solidariteitsactie actie voor de strijd in Griekenland. Vandaag 19:00 Leidseplein.

Een maand geleden.
Geleid door ons instinct, onvoorbereid en zonder elkaar te kennen kwamen we een maand geleden op de Dam bijeen, samen met Spanjaarden, Nederlanders en andere nationaliteiten om te demonstreren tegen het huidige politieke en economisch systeem.
Dankzij deze diversiteit aan nationaliteiten realiseerden wij ons dat we te maken hebben met een globaal fenomeen, dat niet binnen de nauwe grenzen van één land past. In de voorbije periode zijn mensen die elkaar niet kenden dichter bij elkaar gekomen. Ze maakten elkaar deelgenoot van hun visies, verschilden met elkaar van mening, waren het eens, sommigen verdwenen en anderen kwamen de gelederen versterken. De dynamiek die we hier, ver van ons vaderland, ontwikkeld hebben is natuurlijk niet te vergelijken met die van Athene of Madrid, maar wij zijn hier en voelen de verantwoordelijkheid om al het mogelijke te doen om behulpzaam te zijn.
Jullie staan in het centrum van de belangstelling van de hele wereld. Jullie handelen tot nu toe geeft de anderen de kracht om door te gaan. In Amsterdam uiten wij als collectief onze solidariteit met jullie gerechtvaardigde strijd. Wij houden vol, wij organiseren ons en leggen contacten met vergelijkbare groepen in andere Europese steden. Wanneer jullie morgen het parlementsgebouw omsingelen zullen wij aan jullie zijde staan. We roepen iedereen op om morgen om 19.30 als teken van steun te verzamelen bij het Leidseplein om zo naar het Grieks Verkeersbureau in Amsterdam te gaan en bijeen te komen.
Het is duidelijk dat alle pleinen van de wereld ons toebehoren. Wij hebben het gelijk aan onze kant.

Wij strijden voor wat vanzelfsprekend is: VRIJHEID – GERECHTIGHEID – WAARDIGHEID!
De strijd die nooit geleverd werd is de enige die verloren wordt!

It is a free and non-politcal multicultural festival, with 100.000 people attending.

The Belgians have a succesful CAMP in Brussels. After the protest in, we want to join the Brussel CAMP and sleep over. We want to exchange and
listen and learn about their experiences. This is useful when we start up the first Dutch CAMP the 26th.

NO TO THE EURO PACT: We are not goods in the hands of politicians and bankers.
The EURO PACT: New attack on democracy ONCE AGAIN.

ONCE AGAIN, the EU leaders endorse a policy misleading the public to the benefit of large financial corporations, instead of defending the citizens.

On 27th June, all European governments, including that of Spain, will sign in Brussels a major socioeconomic daylight robbery of an international scope: the so-called Euro Pact, by which the politicians of the European Union agree to legislate the orders of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), European Central Bank (ECB) and the World Bank (WB).

Failure to comply with these orders means, the rating agencies that have led Greece, Ireland and Portugal to the ruins (Moody's, Standard & Poor's, and Fitch) will resume their attacks.

What do they sign when they ratify the Euro Pact?
- The public sector salaries should be consistent with the competitiveness of the private sector, WHICH MEANS: further cuts in the public sector as it must offer the same benefits as the private sector´s derisory wages and increasing working hours. Including a sharp cut in the numbers of public employees.

- Therefore all countries should adjust their laws to the dictates of the banks, WHICH MEANS governments are ONCE AGAIN not legislating for the protection and interests of citizens but in the favour of large banking corporations and the markets.

- The retirement age will be delayed in all the countries in accordance with life expectancy.

- Enhancing competitiveness: linking wages to productivity, just like what has already been done in Spain with the latest labour reform which calls for more flexible redundancy laws, more flexible labour agreements and more flexible contracts, thus endangering the current system of collective negotiation of labour laws.

- To foster cheap lay-offs and Temporary Employment Agencies (TEA). The banks will lower the financial strains to encourage the hiring of workers, and in doing so will demolish the Social Security system and will be introducing the figure of "the perpetual intern and the perpetual precarious worker".

- The freezing of all pensions.

- Reduction of social benefits.

- Reduction of the social protection systems, worsening the Social Security system.

- Reduction of spending on education, resulting in poorer results, which are conditions that favour and promote its ultimate privatisation.

- Increased direct and indirect taxes for citizens, small and medium businesses and penalties for not complying with the payment of these taxes through fines, interest, fees, etc.

- Changes to our constitution and that of the signatory countries with the aim of "adjusting the economy within the parameters of the IMF, ECB and World Bank" resulting in the loss of sovereignty of the people.

ONCE AGAIN, governments do not use political power to legislate and to stop the provokers of the crisis and international banks and large hedge funds, for example, stepping in against financial corporations. Instead, with the signing of the Pact of the Euro scheduled for June 27, will strengthen the large financial corporations and adopt policies that are of interest to banks and large European companies. As if we hadn´t had enough, all governments independently of their political colour, will sign this agreement to commit to large financial corporations and thus, as ever, sacrifice the citizens ONCE AGAIN, enabling the financiers to continue defrauding the world using financial products that are as sophisticated as they are risky and fraudulent, and permitting bank usury.

Using the deception that to deal with the debt crisis that grips Europe, increasing the competitiveness of national economies can only be achieved by reducing labour costs ... ONCE AGAIN.

Still no mention of intervention in tax havens where the great fortunes rest or making laws against tax evasion. Still no talk of taxing financial transactions, regulating rating agencies, etc. Still no mention of measures against unemployment and in favour of social welfare.

Still there is no consideration for a public and independent audit of the public debt in order to enable citizens to know what the debt really is and what part of it actually corresponds to the banks and private equity funds which according to the data we have constitutes most of the PUBLIC DEBT.

ONCE AGAIN, we are served the impoverishment of society on a platter in benefit of expanding the great fortunes and accentuating the social divide.

In this way, the historical record of the profits of large financial corporations are ONCE AGAINenlarged even more, the record high salaries of CEOs and executives will increase even more, and thus we reach record levels of poverty and unemployment.

The difficulty of accessing this information is due to the lack of political transparency and the fear that ALL OF EUROPE will TAKE THE STREET.
